WHAT IS TRIPLE DES?
Every day, criminals become more sophisticated in devising electronic schemes to breach the security of electronic banking networks. For protection and security, the Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) and ATM markets are adopting a tough new information encryption system called the Triple Data Encryption Standard, or Triple DES.

Triple DES is a mandated method of encrypting the PIN block that is transmitted from an ATM to the network. It is similar to the current required DES encryption technology but instead of using one key (16 digit alpha numeric number 0-9 and A-F), Triple DES technology will utilize two different keys.
